hu, 2013-01-10 06:20 — bnsf6951
hello every one...these are some pics of the latest addition to my layout.they were made for my "Phoenix Plastics" industry by Elvin Howland of layout concepts ( layoutconcepts@yahoo.com) i have contracted Elvin to do all the tanks on my layout. to date, Elvin has made 50+ tanks for me & i am very happy & pleased with the outcome. Elvin also scratch builds structures.
the second addition are the trees. these trees are native to the phoenix area, they are called "Palos Verde" they were custom made for me by Bob Lacey of Longshadows (trains56@yahoo.com) at this point, Bob has made about 50 trees for me. he will be doing more for me in the future. if you need trees give Bob a shout out
thanks for watching.

to all.. here the video clips from the second part of my rail fanning day. the battery in my camera was going low so these clips are cut short. it seems like all the are doing is going back & forth but there are several moves going on. we were not allowed on "Cal gases" property so i couldn't' get the spotting of the cars in the complex.
by the end of the day the crew moved more than 100 cars
enjoy the vid

bnsf6951's picture
to every one..this is a short slide show of what i have been up to in the past 2 weeks. i have started this section about 7 months ago & i am finally getting to it.
Smith Pipe & Steel was one on BNSF's biggest customers up to about 3-4 years ago.when i went down to this industry, i asked the ladies at the front desk, why don't they have rail service anymore. they weren't' quit sure who made the decision , but it was ruled that, rail service crossing n.19 ave at this location was dangerous. ???????. they also told me that it cost alot more to ship & receive by truck. i have decided to go back a few years and give them back their rail service
enjoy the slide show & as always comment & questions are welcome

this was a test run to see how much power it would take to negotiate the various grades (2%-2.5%) on my layout pulling a 30 car manifest. all the motive power i am using are katos equipped with digitrax decoders. the first test was with just the 2 SD40-2's with no success. i was surprised that the 2 SD40's couldn't pull the first grade out of the yard which is a 2.2% grade. i don't have any of my rolling stock wieghted to offical standards & some cars are equipped with metal wheels & others with plastic wheels. these could be factors of why the SD40-s couldn't do the job.  i added a dash 9 to the consist.& it made a big difference. i used speed step 8 from the 128 scale. i'm not sure why it stalled near the end of the vid because it stalled right over the feeder wires for that section
your comments & input are welcome
